TANNHÄUSER TOR

In their project “Tannhäuser Tor” which started in 2012, Alekos Hofstetter and Florian Göpfert deal with architectural modernism and its disappearance from the public sight. With this disappearance the former utopian promise connected with this concept is dissolved. Hofstetter and Göpfert remodel in theire collaborative drawings and paintings buildings of the modernist era in a fictitious landscape. This construction of a utopian context of an “Neue Heimat” (new homeland) shows the distance which our society keeps to modernist buildings. In the artworks of Alekos Hofstetter and Florian Göpfert architecture is exempt from any functionality and moved to far distance.
